Computers can be a joy or a pain depending on the situation and your level of familiarity in using it. Data backup devices don’t come in cheap either. Fortunately, Google Drive now offers additional data backup option for you without breaking the bank.
Google Drive is one of the most used productivity tools of Google. People use it create backups of their data and make sure that their important data is safe. Now, thanks to a new and upcoming feature, Google will let you backup your entire computer’s storage disk.
Due to this change, instead of files needing to be stored inside the Drive folder, Google will be able to backup the files inside any of your folders. Later this month, on June 28th, Google will launch this feature in the form of a new app named Backup and Sync.
To use this feature, you’ll need to first download the Backup and Sync tool on your Mac or PC. After signing in, you’ll be able to choose the folders that need to be backed up. After doing so, you’ll be able to access Drive across different devices.
In its announcement post, Google announced that Backup and Sync app is focused on the consumer users. The G Suite users can continue using Drive for Mac/PC until the new Drive File Stream is made generally available.

Google Drive is getting a new tool called Backup and Sync on June 28, which will allow users to backup their entire computer, including all the files, photos, etc, straight to Google Drive. Essentially Google Drive will turn into a much better and useful addition to the Google suite of apps. This latest ‘Back and Sync’ tool will work with Windows PCs and Macs as well.
According to an official blogpost from Google, the Backup and Sync will ensures users can access their files from anywhere. Photos, documents, pretty much everything can be backed up via this tool. Google says “Backup and Sync is the latest version of Google Drive for Mac/PC, which is now integrated with the Google Photos desktop uploader.” It will also respect the current drive for Mac/PC settings in the Admin console, says the company.
It’s great news for individual users who often can’t afford additional storage on their own. Data is precious, whatever its nature may be. Whether they are photos, music/songs, videos, documents/files etc., people go to great lengths to save these files for future use. An actual physical back up like external hard drives or flash drives are helpful but they may be more tedious to use and not always reliable. But cloud-based data storage has definitely changed the game and Google Drive is going the extra mile to ensure that its users stay happy is using it and protects their precious data from oblivion at the same time.
